Buzz-R is mostly frequented by men in their 20s-50s. It’s the largest (space wise) of the gay bars here, and not really much of a dancing venue (although they do have karaoke). They also host monthly nomihoudai events, and other events throughout the year for festivals, holidays, and birthdays, etc. The staff is friendly and accommodating, although some basic Japanese competency is recommended.

Ken’s Bar

Ken’s Bar is geared towards a slightly older crowd (think late 20s ~ 40s). It features a small bar with two tables in the back. Ken is an older guy, very jolly, and likes to play matchmaker (mostly for the Japanese guests). The vibe is fairly low key, but the conversation is usually good.
Ken is welcoming, but doesn’t speak English. The bar is quite small to be prepared to be cramped.

Kap

Typically filled with salarymen and other men in their 30s ~ 40s. Music playing is usually dance/electronic. The vibe is similar to Ken’s Bar, but a little more modern. Hiroshi (the Master) is easy to talk to and pretty funny.
Kap is welcoming and has decent service. Hiroshi speaks some English, but will generally speak mostly Japanese if there are other customers around.

Sora

Sora is owned by an older Japanese same-sex couple. The clientele are generally older salarymen (median age usually around 45-50). It’s decorated with a lot of bear/cub-type art and kitsch.
Both the masters are really nice men, and the bar focuses on the bear niche.

Fairytail/Fairytale

Fairytail/Fairytale is a mixed bar for both men and women, found on the floor above BUZZ-R. The room is pretty big and features a small bar and some seating.
Foreigners are definitely welcome, but Ichigo (the Master) doesn’t speak any English (though he claims that he studies it).

Lollipop

Lollipop is decorated like a mix between Candyland and a Toystore, and is pretty large for a Kagoshima bar. The drinks are generally more expensive here. It’s frequented by a generally younger crowd (20s ~ early 30s).

Lollipop is a mixed bar on weekdays.
It becomes a men-only bar on Fridays, Saturdays, and days before public holidays.
